...continued from here
This is a story of redemption, of overcoming demons. The character of Bagger Vance is obviously an angel and is played to perfection by Will Smith. No "Fresh Prince" or "James West" here! Here he is in the character of Bagger Vance - accurate to the depression-era black man. Kudos to Redford and Smith for having the guts to let him speak and act as people like him would have done at that time.
Charlize Theron is gorgeous. I think I would watch her just reciting the alphabet. But the character she played is a another tortured soul in the story and she played it well. Also note that she looks, dresses, wears her hair and behaves has a woman of her era would have. I'm interested in picturing what old people looked like back "in their day" and would like to imagine my grandmother looking like this.
Speaking of historical accuracy, this movie gets the BradFlix "thumbs up" on every detail - the cars, the buildings, the newspaper articles, everything. And of course, the golf clubs!
