...continued from here
The lessons that this movie teaches are the basic Disney values. The world of the future is brightly colored and looks very clean. For people who don't buy into the living in "Disney World" concept, this would be a nightmare. Is this what classic communities in California such as Santa Monica and Studio City will be in the future? It's already happening. Critics of these types of buildings use the term "McMansions". This movie presents us with a choice - dismal, dirty, dark, smoky vs. brightly colored with rounded edges. Isn't there another choice?
On a much more positive note, this movie deals with the concept of alternate futures based on what we do now. Lewis learns is to be careful what you wish for. Aside from the "eye candy" of the beautiful animation, there is a carefully thought-out and told story here. Note that there is a writer's sly "smile and wink" at the villain's inability to "think through the plans very carefully".
